Skin Checks in Bendigo: Mole Checks, Biopsies & Skin Cancer Screening
At Bendigo Doctors, our GPs provide skin checks, mole assessments, biopsies, and minor skin procedures at our clinic in the Bendigo Marketplace on Mitchell Street, convenient, local care when it matters.
Australia has one of the highest rates of skin cancer in the world, and the Bendigo region is no exception. Regular skin checks are an important part of protecting your health, especially with a lifetime of sun exposure behind you.
Why Skin Checks Matter in Bendigo
Skin cancer, including melanoma, is one of the most common cancers affecting Australians. The good news is that when identified early, skin conditions may have more options available for management and care. A skin check with your GP is a straightforward, noninvasive appointment that gives you the opportunity to have any concerning moles, lesions, or skin changes assessed by a professional.
Whether you have a specific spot you’re worried about, a family history of skin cancer, or simply haven’t had a skin check in a while, it’s worth making time for one.

Skin Checks and Assessment of Areas of Concern
Our GPs can examine your skin for signs of concern including unusual moles, changing lesions, or other skin abnormalities. If your GP identifies an area that warrants further investigation, they will discuss the next steps with you — which may include a biopsy, excision, or referral to a specialist dermatologist.
Skin Biopsies in Bendigo
If a skin lesion or mole looks unusual, your GP may recommend a biopsy — a minor procedure that involves taking a small sample of tissue for laboratory analysis. This helps determine whether further assessment is needed. Your GP will explain the procedure, what to expect, and discuss the results with you at a follow-up appointment.
Skin Excisions in Bendigo
Excisions involve the careful removal of skin lesions, moles, or growths that have been identified as concerning or in need of removal. This is a minor procedure performed at the clinic by your GP. Your GP will assess the area and discuss whether excision is the most appropriate option for your situation before proceeding.
Treatment of Common Skin Conditions
Beyond cancer checks, our GPs can assess and discuss management options for a range of common skin conditions. Your GP will work with you to determine the most appropriate approach for your individual situation.
When Should You See a GP About Your Skin?
It is worth booking a skin check or GP appointment if you notice any of the following:
- A mole or spot that has changed in size, shape, or colour
- A lesion that bleeds, itches, or doesn’t heal
- A new spot that looks different from your other moles
- Any skin change that concerns you, even if you’re not sure why
When in doubt, it is always worth getting it checked. Your GP is the right starting point and can refer you to a specialist if needed.
