Women's Health Services at Bendigo Doctors

Gynaecological Exams

Regular gynaecological check-ups are an important part of maintaining your overall health and wellbeing. Our GPs can conduct gynaecological exams in a comfortable, respectful, and confidential environment.

Cervical Cancer Screening

According to Australian clinical guidelines, regular cervical screening is strongly recommended as part of preventative health care for women and people with a cervix aged 25 to 74, every five years. Our GPs can perform your cervical screening test at the clinic and
talk you through your results at a follow-up appointment.

Birth Control Guidance and Contraception Options

Choosing the right contraception is a personal decision. Our GPs can walk you through the options available and help you work out what may suit your individual circumstances, health history, and lifestyle. Options available to discuss include the contraceptive pill, implants, intrauterine devices (IUDs), and other methods. Your GP will help guide the conversation
without pressure.

Sexual and Reproductive Health

Our team provides confidential support for a range of sexual and reproductive health concerns. If you have questions or concerns in this area, you can speak openly with our GPs in a non-judgmental and supportive setting.

Prenatal and Antenatal Care

If you’re pregnant or planning a pregnancy, our GPs provide care and support to help you maintain your health and wellbeing throughout your pregnancy. Antenatal care at Bendigo Doctors includes health monitoring and guidance for expectant mothers from early pregnancy right through to delivery. Our team will also work with you to coordinate any specialist or hospital care you may need along the way.

Why See a Female GP for Women's Health?

We understand that some women feel more comfortable discussing personal or sensitive health matters with a female doctor. At Bendigo Doctors, we have female GPs on our team who provide care in a warm, respectful, and discreet manner.

If you would prefer to see a female GP for your appointment, please mention this when booking and our reception team will do their best to accommodate your preference, subject to availability.

Bulk Billing for Women's Health Appointments

Bendigo Doctors is a 100% bulk billing practice. Here’s how billing works for women’s health appointments:

  • GP consultations: all patients with a valid Medicare card can access women’s health appointments at no out-of-pocket cost
  • Telehealth consultations: bulk billed for eligible patients under the same criteria as in-person visits
  • Some procedures: may incur a private fee, separate from your consultation

Our team will always let you know in advance if any costs apply to your appointment. Fees are payable on the day by cash, credit card or EFTPOS.

What to Expect at Your Women's Health Appointment

Your appointment will be a private, one-on-one conversation with your GP. You’re welcome to ask questions, raise concerns, or simply talk through what’s been on your mind — there’s no pressure and no judgement.
